Wings of Soaring: The School of Electronics and Information Engineering held the first Beidou research camp

Nov 11, 2024

In order to provide young people with a broad space for scientific exploration and stimulate children's interest in science learning, the Institute of Telecommunications has carried out a series of activities of "opening the 'research' field and 'creating' the future". On the afternoon of April 15, 50 second-grade students from Nanjing Liren Primary School gathered in our school to participate in the first Beidou Research camp, and spent an educational and scientific research activity together. The Beidou Research Camp was led by Ye Yudi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and vice president of the Institute, Wang Xinting and Qi Xuefeng, graduate counselors of the Institute.

The first stop is the "Beidou Sailing" popular science education base. In the microwave darkroom on the first floor of the Microwave Building, science popularization volunteer Zhou Jiahao led the children into the microwave world, to understand the simple principles of microwave absorption and reflection, and introduced the mechanism of action of the darkroom. The children were amazed at the design of the darkroom and felt the magic of microwave technology. In the exhibition room on the 1st floor of the Electromagnetic Building, science Popularization Ambassador Du Hongyu led the children to visit various antenna and radar equipment placed in the exhibition room. He explained the important role of electromagnetic wave in communication and medical treatment to the children in a simple and understandable way. The children learned the mysteries of microwave and electromagnetic wave through observation, listening and interaction. Arouses the interest in science and technology and the spirit of exploration.

The second stop is JianShan Garden. In the JianShan Garden, a magnificent sculpture stands, casting memories of history and culture. The narrator Wang Yixuan explained the creation story of Professor Wu Weishan, and the large screen played the process of Professor Wu's dedication to creation. The children not only felt the charm of art, but also absorbed the spiritual strength of perseverance and courage to create, and accumulated valuable cultural nutrients for their future growth.

The third station is the popular science education base of the College of Automation. The science explant first introduced the operation principle of the writing robot. The writing robot in front of the platform, like having the wisdom of human beings, can write various Chinese characters on paper. The children surround the narrator, hoping the robot can write down their names. The children marveled at the robot writing their names accurately. Then the science guide uses an industrial robot to demonstrate the Hannot Tower mini-game. The children watched intently, marveling at the robot's superb technology and precise movements. They are not only attracted by the flexible operation of robots, but also shocked by the magic of technology.

The fourth station is the comprehensive meteorological observation base. In the observation base, the guide teacher Wu Di led the children to learn a variety of common meteorological observation instruments, such as snow depth measuring instruments, precipitation measuring instruments, visibility measuring instruments, etc. Wu Di patiently explained the principle and function of each instrument, and the children actively interacted with each other, showing a strong desire for knowledge and the spirit of exploration. Through field observation, the children deepened their understanding of weather changes, felt the mystery of weather prediction, and felt the integration of knowledge and happiness.

"Open the 'research' field and 'create' the future together" Beidou Research Camp is like a feast of knowledge, allowing children to indulge in the profound world of science. This activity relies on the "Flying Wings" college student science and technology volunteer service project, the students explore and learn in the ocean of science and technology, harvest full of knowledge and moved. It is expected that more primary and secondary school students will participate in research activities together in the future, so that the Beidou Research Camp will open a broader vision for more young people and stimulate more wisdom and potential.
