Introduction of the school


Historical Evolution

The School of Electronic and Information Engineering of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology can be traced back to the electronic teaching and research group of the atmospheric detection teaching and research section established in 1972. In 2006, the School of Electronic and Information Engineering was established by integrating four related majors from the former Department of Information and Communication and the Department of Electronic Engineering. At present, the college has 3,195 full-time students, including 2,190 undergraduates and 1,005 postgraduates and doctoral students.

Disciplines and Majors

The college currently has one first-level doctoral degree program in information and communication engineering, two first-level master's degree programs in information and communication engineering and electronic science and technology, and one master's degree program in electronic information. It also has one post-doctoral research station in information and communication engineering. Information and communication engineering has been selected into the advantageous disciplines of colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province for three consecutive periods. The engineering discipline mainly supported by information and communication engineering and electronic science and technology ranks among the top 2‰ in the ESI ranking (ranking 69th domestically). The college offers three undergraduate majors: electronic information engineering, communication engineering, and electronic science and technology. It has launched the world's first Huawei experimental class in the data communication direction. It has two national first-class undergraduate majors, one first-class undergraduate major in Jiangsu Province, three brand majors in Jiangsu Province, and one brand major in industry-education integration in Jiangsu Province. Three majors have passed the professional certification of engineering education in China.

Teaching Staff

The college has a strong teaching staff. Centering on the two core tasks of talent cultivation and scientific research, it has formed 11 teaching teams and 9 scientific research teams. Currently, there are 122 faculty members, including 95 full-time teachers, 24 professors, and 41 associate professors. There are also 3 overseas part-time professors. The doctoral degree rate of the full-time teaching staff reaches 96%, and the internationalization rate reaches 52.7%. Now, it has one double-employed academician, five national-level talents, one IEEE Fellow, and 39 provincial and ministerial-level talents such as "Double Innovation Talents," specially appointed professors, "Six Talent Peaks," "Double Innovation Doctors," and "Young Scientific and Technological Talents Support Project" of the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology. Four people are included in the list of the top 2% of leading scientists globally, and one person has won the Young Scientist Award of the International Union of Radio Science. It has won one "Equipment Pre-research Joint Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education," three "Double Innovation Teams" in Jiangsu Province, one outstanding scientific and technological innovation team in Jiangsu Province, one outstanding teaching team of the "Blue Project" in Jiangsu Province, and one outstanding grass-roots teaching organization at the provincial level of colleges and universities in Jiangsu.

Party Building and Ideological and Political Education

The college adheres to cultivating people with virtue. By firmly grasping the main line of the "Beidou spirit in the new era" and practicing the school-running purpose of "dedicated to student-oriented education and deeply cultivating the university spirit," it innovates the educational concept of Party building and ideological and political education and creates the "Beidou Stars" Party building and ideological and political education system with distinctive characteristics of information and communication disciplines, achieving remarkable educational results. The teaching staff Party branch of electronic information engineering has been recommended to apply for the "national model Party branch," and the second Party branch of electronic information professional master's degree has been recommended to apply for the "provincial-level model Party branch for Party building work." The project of "Creating 'Three Types' Party Lectures with the Concept of 'Three Micros' and Innovating the Branding Construction of Party Lectures" was awarded the second prize for innovation in Party building work by the Party Committee of Jiangsu Education Work Committee. "The 'Beidou Spirit' Lights up the Stars - Exploration and Practice of the Ideological and Political Education System of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology" won the third prize for student management innovation in colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province. The "Beidou Stars" style of study cultivation studio was approved as the 2022 style of study cultivation studio by the China Association for Science and Technology. "Exploration and Practice of the 'Beidou Stars' Party Building and Ideological and Political Education System of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering" has been tracked and reported by the "China Education Daily" for two consecutive years.

Talent Cultivation

The college follows the educational concept of "strengthening the foundation, emphasizing practice, and advocating innovation" and has formed a distinctive new model of cultivating outstanding engineering talents with "cross-disciplinary, integrated, and collaborative" features. It was selected into the "Compilation of Experience and Characteristic Cases of Master's Degree in Engineering Education of the National Steering Committee for Postgraduate Education in Engineering." In recent three years, the scientific research and discipline competition achievements of students in school are gratifying. They have obtained more than 600 invention patents, software copyrights, and utility model patents, and published more than 300 high-quality papers such as SCI papers. Five undergraduates' graduation projects (theses) have won the excellent undergraduate graduation project (thesis) award in Jiangsu Province, and four excellent professional master's degree theses have been awarded in Jiangsu Province. Undergraduates have won more than 150 national-level honors and more than 380 provincial-level honors in competitions such as the China International "Internet +" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition, and the College Students Integrated Circuit Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. In 2023, they won the national special prize in the "Challenge Cup" special competition and the national special prize in the "Challenge Cup" black technology special competition. In 2022, the College Students Integrated Circuit Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition won eight national-level awards, setting a new historical high. The number of national first prizes in the "Blue Bridge Cup" electronic category competition ranked first in the country for two consecutive years. The graduate students of the college have won the "Star of Postgraduate Research and Innovation" for two consecutive years. The number of first prizes has ranked among the top four in the country for four consecutive years. In 2023, a total of five national first prizes, four second prizes, and one third prize were won. The rate of undergraduates entering domestic and foreign first-class universities and research institutes such as Tsinghua University for further studies is 53.04%. More than 6% of undergraduates are recommended for admission to "double first-class" universities and research institutes, and nearly 3% of undergraduates are admitted to well-known foreign universities. The employment rate reaches over 97%, and a number of outstanding graduates such as national advanced workers and Forbes 30 Under 30 elites have emerged.

Teaching Reform

The college has achieved fruitful results in education and teaching reform. In the past five years, it has been approved for three new engineering research and practice projects of the Ministry of Education, eight provincial-level teaching reform research projects, one special project for teaching and research in colleges and universities, and two typical cases of the "School-Enterprise Cooperation and Double Hundred Plan" of the Ministry of Education. It has been approved for two national first-class undergraduate courses, four provincial first-class undergraduate courses, five national-level textbooks, six provincial key textbooks, and two provincial-level online open courses. It has won one first prize of the national teaching achievement award (Dai Yuewei, ranked second) and one second prize of the teaching achievement award of Jiangsu Province. It has won nine national-level teaching competition awards, including four first prizes in the experimental teaching case design competition for basic courses in electrical and electronic engineering (ranking first in the country in 2021).

Industry-Education Integration

The college actively promotes industry-education integration and the integration of science, education, and innovation. It takes the initiative to run schools oriented towards industries and innovates the mechanism of deep industry-education integration. The "Internet of Things Intelligent Terminal Entrepreneurship College" was approved as a key industrial college in Jiangsu Province. Relying on the industrial resources of the Yangtze River Delta, it fully promotes industry-education integrated education and has jointly built internship and training bases with more than 20 units such as China Electronics Corporation, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, China Mobile, Huawei, and Aerospace Science and Technology. It has jointly built professional degree postgraduate joint training bases with more than 10 units such as the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the 63rd Research Institute of National University of Defense Technology, the Aerospace Information Innovation Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Fifth Academy of Aerospace. The dual-mentor system is implemented, expanding the channels for postgraduate training and significantly improving the engineering practice abilities of postgraduates and on-campus mentors.

Scientific Research Platform

The college has strong teaching and research platforms. It has six provincial-level platforms such as the key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, the Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Meteorological Detection and Information Processing, the Jiangsu Meteorological Sensor Network Engineering Technology Center, and the Nanjing Branch of the China Meteorological Administration Meteorological Detection Technology Research Center. There are also eight in-school scientific research institutions such as the Radar Technology Research Institute and the Electromagnetic Detection and Protection Research Center. It has formed nine characteristic research directions such as communication network technology, radar technology, signal and information processing, electromagnetic detection and protection, meteorological instruments and meters, and sensor technology and application.

Scientific Research Achievements

The college aims at the forefront of world science and technology and serves national strategies. It conducts theoretical innovation research in communication theory, network theory, radar technology, antenna theory and technology, etc. More than 70 papers on antenna gain theory extremum and channel polarization codes have been published in top journals such as IEEE TAP and IEEE TWC in the field of antennas and communications. It has undertaken two key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, five national key research and development plans (leading two projects), and more than 20 key projects of various types. It has taken the lead in establishing the "Jiangsu Beidou Satellite Navigation Testing Center" and has become one of the six major Beidou navigation product testing bases in the country. It helps build the China Meteorological Valley and serves the needs of national disaster prevention and mitigation and the localization of high-end meteorological equipment. In the past five years, it has won one first prize and one second prize of national defense science and technology progress awards, five science and technology awards from the Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Province, and one first prize of the "Invention and Entrepreneurship Award for Innovation" of the China Invention Association. The industry-university-research cooperation project has won four awards such as the Productivity Promotion Award of the China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Association, the Science and Technology Progress Award of the China Institute of Metrology and Testing, and the Science and Technology Award of the China Electronics Technology Group Corporation.

International Cooperation

The college promotes the rapid improvement of various aspects such as teaching staff construction, scientific research, and talent cultivation through international cooperation and exchanges. In 2023, one person was approved for the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Foreign Outstanding Scholar Fund, was selected into the Jiangsu Provincial Foreign Experts Hundred Talents Program project, and won the Jiangsu Friendship Award. One person was selected as a specially appointed professor in Jiangsu Province. In 2021, in cooperation with the University of South Africa, it was jointly approved for the national key research and development plan "Intergovernmental International Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation" key special project. In 2023, in cooperation with the Belarusian University of Radio and Information, it was jointly approved for the national key research and development plan "Intergovernmental International Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation" key special project, practicing the call of the country to empower the high-quality development of the "Belt and Road" with scientific and technological innovation. The college renewed the exchange student training agreement with Saitama University in Japan to steadily improve the quality of undergraduate training. More than 50 graduate students participated in international academic conferences and gave reports.

Social Service

The college actively responds to national and social needs, gives full play to its disciplinary advantages, and actively carries out social services such as scientific and technological exchanges, talent cultivation, and popular science education. It has hosted the China Information and Communication Testing Technology Conference, the academic conference of the Satellite Communication and Navigation Professional Committee of the Jiangsu Communication Society, and the Jiangsu Electronic Information College Deans Forum. It pioneered the "wireless communication air interface testing system," which is urgently needed by the national strategy, filling the gap in the industrial chain. It has helped the Jiangsu Beidou Navigation Testing and Certification Center and the Beidou Navigation Product 2201 Quality Inspection Center become one of the six major Beidou satellite navigation testing centers in the country, serving more than 250 enterprises and institutions. The "all-factor automatic meteorological observation system and its calibration technology" was approved as an industrial demonstration project of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, realizing the localization of automatic weather stations and automatic meteorological observation system equipment and has been promoted and applied in 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government across the country. The "Beidou Sets Sail" popular science education base of the college was approved as a popular science education base in Jiangsu Province, encouraging young students to carry forward the spirit of scientists and build dreams for a powerful country through science and technology. In 2023, the "Beidou Sets Sail" college student science and technology volunteer service project received the "excellent+" grade in the conclusion of the "Soaring Wings" college student science and technology volunteer service project of the China Association for Science and Technology (only 12 in the country) and was approved  again. At the same time, it was rated as an "excellent science and technology volunteer service project in Jiangbei New Area, Nanjing City," "an excellent science and technology volunteer service project in Nanjing City," and "an outstanding science and technology volunteer service project in the Yangtze River Delta in 2023."
