Wings of Soaring: The School of Electronics and Information Engineering held the 3-4 Beidou Research camp

Nov 11, 2024

In order to spread the spirit of scientists, popularize the knowledge of Beidou science and technology, and cultivate young people's interest in science and exploration spirit, from May 18th to May 19th, the third and fourth Beidou Research Camp were held respectively, receiving a total of more than 100 first-grade students from LangYa Road Primary School Tianruncheng Primary School and Nanhua Experimental Primary School. The Beidou Research Camp was led by Wang Xinting, graduate counselor of the Institute of Telecommunications, and relied on the "Flying Wings" college student science popularization volunteer service project. Under the guidance of the navigator, the children spent an educational and scientific journey.

The first stop is Miyama Garden. Jianshan Garden is built according to Longwang Mountain, with a unique shape and a "mountain" font, smooth lines and artistic characteristics. In the Jianshan Garden, the narrator tells the story of Professor Wu Weishan's creation. A vivid statue in the garden is the crystallization of Professor Wu's wisdom, but also the continuation of stories and the flow of emotions. When the children came to the sculpture of Premier Zhou Enlai, they surrounded the sculpture and carefully scrutinized every detail, as if they were having an intimate conversation with Premier Zhou. Although they are young and immature, there is a sense of reverence and awe in their eyes. The children not only experienced the charm of the combination of art and history, but also personally felt the style and character of the great leader, which inspired their patriotic feelings and helped them grow up healthily.

The second stop is the "Beidou Sailing" popular science education base. In the microwave building, the narrator Wang Long led everyone to visit the contraction field microwave darkroom and electromagnetic compatibility darkroom, and vividly described the mechanism of the two darkrooms to the children in plain language, which stimulated everyone's strong desire to explore and yearn for science and technology. The exhibition room of the electric and magnetic building displayed a variety of antennas, radars and experimental equipment. Xu Jialan, the commentator, introduced the small dual-band circular polarization Beidou navigation antenna array, explained what Beidou is, the history of Beidou navigation construction and the impact of Beidou on our lives, so that the children could understand that driving navigation, sea fishing and post-disaster search cannot be separated from Beidou's contribution.

The third station is the popular science education base of the College of Automation. The base docents first introduced the humanoid robot and demonstrated how the humanoid robot can get up like a human after falling down. This scene caused a sensation and surprise among the children, instantly arousing their curiosity and excitement. The docents also showed how a writing robot can write flexibly and how an industrial robot can complete the Hannot Tower mini-game. The children were fascinated by the high intelligence, autonomy and personification of these robots, as well as the charm of technology.

The fourth stop is the school history hall. The school history Hall adopts a combination of traditional and modern exhibition methods, and shows the development of the school for more than 60 years in various forms such as text, pictures and objects with models and multimedia. It is an important base for recording the history of the school, stimulating the feelings of love for the school, gathering development consensus and inspiring wisdom. The narrator spoke passionately about the growth of the school, and through engaging language, the children felt as if they were in the scene and felt the vicissitudes of the school.

This Beidou Research camp creates an open learning environment for young people, allowing them to deeply understand the mysteries and applications of Beidou science and technology through personal experience and practice, and stimulate their strong interest in science. Through observation, exploration and interaction, they more intuitively feel the charm of science, full of infinite imagination of future scientific and technological possibilities. It is expected that more primary and secondary school students will participate in research activities in the future, hoping that they can explore in the ocean of science and open up a new world under the guidance of science and technology.
