Academic Exchange

Professor Nour Mohammad Murad from Universite de Reunion, France was invited to give an academic report in 2024 School of Electronic and Information Engineering • Wisdom High-end Forum (20th) of NUIST

Nov 13, 2024

Title: An overview of the University of la Reunion (France) and Smart Building: From Energy Harvesting, Monitoring (IoT) to Energy Storage Management Systems (IA)

Speaker: Professor Nour Mohammad Murad

Report time: 10:00-11:30 am, October 25, 2024 (Friday)

Address: Conference room on the second floor of Microwave Building

Moderator: Professor Wan Fayu

About the Speaker:

Pr. Nour Mohammad Murad was born in Reunion Island, France. He received the M.S. degree (with honors) and the Ph.D. in communications & electronics at the IMT (Institut Mine Telecom-Telecom Paris), in 1998 and 2001, respectively. In 2018, he obtains his Accreditation to Direct Research (HdR) in Numerical Communications and Networks. He is professor assistant at PIMENT Laboratory and at the Institute of Technology of the University of La Réunion (IUT of Saint Pierre). He is member of research groups: IEEE, GDR Ondes, GDR MAC and Radio Society. He is author or coauthor of 1 patent and more than 80 papers published in refereed journals and conferences. His current research interests include, wireless communications and networks, signal processing, telecom systems modeling and simulation. He develops new activities in the field of intelligent walls (Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface-RIS) and Energy Management System (EMS) for smart building and future cellular mobile. RIS and EMS are applied to buildings and to the environment, for the comfort of users and for developing countries. He studies and develops some affordable harvesting energy nanogenerator (rectennas network, tribo and piezo electricity) and artificial intelligence (AI) tools for small and remote embedded systems. He is lecturer on operator network, access network, IoT, Wireless network (Wifi, Bluetooth, Lora, Sigfox…), mobile networks (2G to 5G), telecommunication engineering systems.

Summary of report:

First, a presentation on the University of la Reunion (France) will be done. In a second time, some brief research projects based on smart building concept, the recovery of sustainable and renewable energy are shown. A wireless sensor network (IoT) installed in the buildings of the IUT measures various physical parameters in order to control and reduce the electricity consumed by the air conditioners with a small smart box. Secondly, an energy management system for PV and battery was developed and tested with divers’ algorithms for a nanogrid. Preliminary result is shown and concludes that simple algorithm is sufficient to manage energy. Then, an energy radio harvesting with a 3D printing rectifier antenna (rectenna) show possibility to exploit radio wave pollution to power remote devices.

Welcome teachers and students to participate!
